I also teach private and small group breastfeeding classes as well as offer private consults before birth. Do you know that the law states that Health Insurance Plans must cover Comprehensive Lactation Support and Counseling without copay? Call your insurance and ask about the details! My goal is simple: make available to every woman the support and resources she needs to establish and maintain a healthy and happy breastfeeding relationship with her infant. Breastfeeding is a beautiful and natural way to provide optimal nutrition to your baby. Sometimes, however, obstacles can arise that make breastfeeding more difficult. When these situations occur, having personalized and comprehensive lactation support in your own home can truly help you overcome your difficulties and reach your goals. During our consult, I will take the time to find out what matters to you and what you want most when nurturing your child, and help you develop a plan for those goals. Visits are in depth and typically last two hours, and include a weight check, assessment of mother, baby, and a feeding, and a written plan personalized to your individual needs. Visits include follow up support through phone and email. I am friendly and supportive of all family dynamics and can't wait to meet you and your little one!

Breastfeeding guidance in the comfort of your home. During a home visit we observe, without judgement at least one complete feeding. Together, we'll review how to make feeding comfortable. In two hours, I can do a thorough review of both mother and baby including pre and post feed weights. You'll receive a written review of our visit with relevant resources. A written review is also sent to your pediatrician. I always follow up to assure your plan is working. We can continue to be in touch. Drawing on twenty years as a childbirth educator and ten years as doula, I listen carefully to a mothers good instincts. Breastfeeding is a profound postpartum adjustment. Let's work together to make this a comfortable habit for you.

Just because breastfeeding is natural, doesn't mean it's always easy. An in-home visit, usually scheduled that day or the next, will give you a care plan to follow to help get you where you want to be with breastfeeding. Visits last 2-2.5 hours and include a complete history, assistance with breastfeeding, and a weighted feed to check baby's intake. My approach is holistic and adaptable to what works for you and your baby, not one size fits all. Most of our time together will be spent with me answering your questions, and focusing on your priorities and concerns. I can share with you what worked for many others so you don't need to reinvent the wheel. LGBTQ welcoming. I travel about 30-40 minutes from Bedford, and my fee is often reimbursed by your health insurance. Prenatal breastfeeding and childbirth classes are also available.

Home visits in Arlington, Cambridge, Medford, Belmont, Winchester, Lexington, Melrose, Malden,Woburn, Burlington, Somerville, Waltham, Watertown, Boston, and other communities in the greater Boston area. Visits are about two hours long. In a typical visit, we talk about your baby's birth, breastfeeding history, and any questions you might have about breastfeeding. I observe a feeding, and give support on latching, positioning, etc. Usually we will weigh the baby before and after the feed to get a good sense of intake. At the end of the visit, I write up a plan, with my suggestions and notes. I also include follow up support by phone or email. I am in-network with Aetna and Unicare GIC, and can bill these insurance companies directly. With other insurers, I provide a detailed coded receipt that you can submit for reimbursement. Most insurers are reimbursing lactation visits in full with no copays or deductibles.

Breastfeeding is a natural process, but also a learned process.  My goal is to provide you with the tools needed to meet your baby's feeding needs and to meet your own breastfeeding goals.  I was drawn to lactation support, before even having children of my own. As a nurse taking care of hospitalized newborns, I saw the role that breastmilk can have in healing sick newborns and the role that providing the breastmilk can have in helping their mothers.  That was ten years ago. Since then, I have assisted mother baby pairs in the hospital, at the pediatrician's office and in their own homes.  Each interaction has left me in awe of the strength and natural ability of mothers and their babies.

Breastfeeding is one of the most amazing gifts a mother can give to her baby. However, many mothers are not prepared for the challenges that can occur when she AND the baby are learning to nurse (because baby has to learn too!). Our dedicated breastfeeding classes cover the information and skills parents need to start their breastfeeding relationship right. Locations in Amherst and Northampton, MA. Class Topics include: Anatomy of Nursing - Reviewing the physical process of how breast milk is made and discussing supply and demand and how that translates to feeding. Latch - Reviewing the characteristics of a proper breastfeeding latch, discussing what happens if baby does not latch properly, and practicing (with a special "Latch" doll) latching a baby to a breast. Breastfeeding Positions - Practicing the different ways to hold a baby while nursing. Common Problems and Solutions - Discussing common issues moms and babies can have while learning to breastfeed (cracked nipples, supply problems, etc.), how they can be prevented and solved, and when to call a Lactation Consultant for help. Pumping and Bottle-Feeding Expressed Milk - Discussing how and when to introduce and breastfed baby to a bottle, practice operating a breast pump, and discussing the logistics of pumping at home and at work.

Lactation support is offered in the privacy of your home, on a date and time that suits your family. A 1-2 hour visit consists of the observation of a feeding during which tips and suggestions are made in order to improve latch and increase milk transfer from you to your baby. A pre and post feed weight will be done in order to evaluate how much breast milk your baby is getting during a feeding. We will then create a customized plan for you and your baby that will address your questions and concerns and will assist you in reaching your breastfeeding goals. This is a valuable opportunity to troubleshoot any specific breastfeeding concerns with not only a lactation specialist, but also a Nurse Practitioner. Visits may also include troubleshooting when things go wrong, when and how to start pumping, safe storage of breastmilk and general questions about milk supply. Please contact your health insurance company as many health insurance companies reimburse for lactation visits.

I’m excited to be running the only weekly breastfeeding and chestfeeding support group in Sudbury, MA! Our group meets on Tuesdays at 1 PM in a sunny, toy-filled room at Memorial Congregational Church (26 Concord Road, Sudbury MA 01776). Pregnant parents are invited, as well as those who are nursing babies of any age or pumping milk for their children. Are you exclusively breastfeeding, combo feeding, weaning, exclusively pumping, triple feeding, using donor milk, DONATING donor milk, using a supplemental nursing system? We’d love to have you with us! Weigh your baby, chat with other local families, ask questions, make friends. What can you expect at our breastfeeding and chestfeeding support group? We sit in a circle on the floor while older children play. Our group is informal and anyone can bring up a topic or ask a question at any time. The goal of our group is for local MetroWest families to have a place to meet and talk about their babies and children in a space that is supportive of breastfeeding and chestfeeding. Admission is $5 per family, and I have snacks available for older siblings and parents. You do NOT need to be a client of mine to attend.
