Most insurances reimburse for my services. I am an Aetna and Unicare Provider. Direct booking available on my website! I am now offering virtual consults for certain situations as part of our effort to protect families from COVID-19. My goal is simple: make available to every parent the support and resources they need to feel empowered while nourishing their infant in whichever way works for their family. Breastfeeding is a beautiful and natural way to provide optimal nutrition to your baby. Sometimes, however, obstacles can arise that make breastfeeding more difficult. When these situations occur, having personalized and comprehensive lactation support in your own home can truly help you overcome your difficulties and reach your goals. During our consult, I will take the time to find out what matters to you and what you want most when nurturing your child, and help you develop a plan for those goals. Visits are in depth and typically last two hours, and include a weight check, assessment of mother, baby, and a feeding, and a written plan personalized to your individual needs. Visits include follow up support through phone and email. I am friendly and supportive of all family dynamics and feeding methods, and can't wait to meet you and your little one! Please feel free to view my free guide to pumping at work, available on my website!

Offering home and telemedicine visits. COVID-19 precautions will be observed during home visits. I offer compassionate, personalized support to help you meet your baby's feeding needs and your own breastfeeding goals. I was drawn to lactation support, before even having children of my own. As a nurse taking care of hospitalized newborns, I saw the role that breastmilk can have in healing sick newborns and the role that providing the breastmilk can have in helping their mothers. That was ten years ago. Since then, I have assisted mother baby pairs in the hospital, at the pediatrician's office and in their own homes. Each interaction has left me in awe of the strength and natural ability of mothers and their babies.

At the heart of my practice, I want to help you meet your feeding goals, whether that's with 100% human milk or including some formula and bottles. I love supporting families as they learn new skills and techniques related to feeding and soothing their babies as well as in efforts to make more milk and find pumping more comfortable, efficient and effective. In order to support my families with the most updated information and techniques as possible, I enjoy incorporating the skills I have learned in infant oral assessment, pre- and post-frenectomy activities, Rhythmic Movement Training, TummyTime Method and advanced skills I've learned through many hours of continuing education. I love learning! While I have an office in Northborough, I also do home visits, especially for the newer babies (typically in Central Mass and MetroWest but sometimes I go further). I also offer two different support groups (see my website, babiesincommon.com for more info on those). I also offer professional education (information on that is also on my website, babiesincommon.com.

I prepare written care plans and follow-ups with your healthcare provider as well as text, email, and telephone support. I have been working for mothers for the last ten years in the hospital setting as well as in private practice. I have always had a love of infants and find joy assisting mothers in the first weeks and months of their baby’s life. I pursue finding solutions and alternatives that work for families and enable parents to enjoy the breastfeeding experience. This may take many forms—each family and breastfeeding pair is unique. I have experience with preterm and late preterm infants both in the hospital setting and post-discharge. Breastfeeding an infant does not always happen easily, though it is a natural process! There is always guidance that is helpful along the way. My fee per visit includes any correspondence before and after the visit. This includes contact by text, email and phone. A home visit typically is two hours in duration to enable enough time to go thoroughly over your babies feeding patterns, assist with latching, and cover any issues you may be experiencing. After your visit I will supply an invoice with appropriate billing codes and information to make the process of gaining reimbursement as smooth as possible. In Massachusetts most health insurance plans reimburse 100% for lactation visits that occur with an IBCLC, however it is always good to check first with your insurance. I am an approved provider with the leading insurance companies in the Boston area.

Offering virtual consultations during the pandemic. Just because breastfeeding is natural, doesn't mean it's always easy. An in-home visit, usually scheduled that day or the next, will give you a care plan to follow to help get you where you want to be with breastfeeding. Visits last about 2 hours and include a complete history, assistance with breastfeeding, and a weighted feed to check baby's intake. My approach is holistic and adaptable to what works for you and your baby, not one size fits all. Most of our time together will be spent with me answering your questions, and focusing on your priorities and concerns. I can share with you what worked for many others so you don't need to reinvent the wheel. LGBTQ welcoming. I travel about 30-40 minutes from Bedford, and my fee is often reimbursed by your health insurance. Prenatal breastfeeding and childbirth classes are also available.

As a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, I am trained and certified to guide and support you with this natural, important, but sometimes challenging part of new parenthood. I will work with you to provide guidance, assurances, and make the process as relaxing as possible by helping with methods for making sure you and your child(ren) are able to regularly, comfortably, and successfully breastfeed or bottle feed while maintaining the important parent-infant bond with one another. In addition, there are many things a new parent needs to know about maintaining a busy lifestyle while continuing to breastfeed, which I can help outline and plan for as well.

Lactation support is offered in the privacy of your home, on a date and time that suits your family. A 1-2 hour visit consists of the observation of a feeding during which tips and suggestions are made in order to improve latch and increase milk transfer from you to your baby. A pre and post feed weight will be done in order to evaluate how much breast milk your baby is getting during a feeding. We will then create a customized plan for you and your baby that will address your questions and concerns and will assist you in reaching your breastfeeding goals. This is a valuable opportunity to troubleshoot any specific breastfeeding concerns with not only a lactation specialist, but also a Nurse Practitioner. Visits may also include troubleshooting when things go wrong, when and how to start pumping, safe storage of breastmilk and general questions about milk supply. Please contact your health insurance company as many health insurance companies reimburse for lactation visits.

IBCLC
Lactation Consultants who have the initials IBCLC or RLC after their names have completed rigorous training, including hundreds of hours of supervised experience, and passed a certifying exam given by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, which is independently accredited. This is the highest level of professional lactation qualification, and those holding it are required to recertify every five years. An IBCLC may charge a fee, which may not be covered by insurance.
Read more about the IBCLC credential here.
Breastfeeding Counselors and Educators
Breastfeeding Counselors and Educators come from a variety of backgrounds and training programs. Such training includes classes or coursework, and may or may not include hands-on experience with nursing mothers and babies. A person listed in this section may hold a certificate saying they have completed a course or series of courses; the certificate may also show that the person passed an exam.
These Counselors and Educators will list credentials like Certified Lactation Counslor (CLC), Certified Lacation Specialist, Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, Certified Lactation Educator (CLE), etc. Because these are offered by different organizations, with different requirements for training and for certification, it is best to read about the training of each type of Breastfeeding Counselor and Educator here.
Free Community Breastfeeding Support Counselors
Free Community Breastfeeding Support Counselors are women who have received training from a specific organization, and have often breastfed their own babies. Some of these organizations require the Counselor to keep up-to-date with continuing education. These Counselors provide support about situations that may arise over the normal course of breastfeeding, and can guide a nursing mother in seeking help from a professional when needed. They may be available for phone help, in support group settings, and will sometimes provide home visits. This support is usually free (some may ask for coverage of expenses like parking if required when doing a home visit).
Free Community Breastfeeding Support Counslers may be trained by national organizations like Breastfeeding USA and La Leche League, or local ones. Read more about various volunteer training programs here.
Medical Professional
Medical Professionals listed on ZipMilk are people who have a medical credential and have expressed an interest in breastfeeding. They might include doctors, midwives, osteopaths, or dentists.
As with non-medical practitioners, the most rigorous professional certification in breastfeeding is the IBCLC. Doctors may also be members or fellows of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, a world-wide organization of MDs interested in breastfeeding. Please note that a medical credential by itself does not show that the person has breastfeeding expertise. A Medical Professional who is listed here should tell you about their additional experience or training in breastfeeding.
Read more about various credentials you may see in addition to a practitioners medical degree here.
Support Group
Support Groups on ZipMilk might be led or facilitated by a person from one of several different backgrounds. The person might be a volunteer counselor, IBCLC, Peer Counselor or CLC, or something else - feel free to ask about a facilitator's training if it is not clearly stated.
Support Groups offer a chance to meet other mothers and get advice on breastfeeding from both peers and experts. Group times and locations are subject to change. Please call to confirm these before attending a meeting. Groups run by volunteers are usually free. Groups run by hospitals or businesses may have a charge or require registration.
Read more about the training of the people who might run these Support Groups here.
WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator
WIC Breastfeeding Coordinators oversee programs that support breastfeeding mothers enrolled in the federal program for Women, Infants, and Children. Many WIC offices have peer counselors who can provide support for nursing families. Search ZipMilk for your local WIC office to find out what services are available.
Read more about the training program for WIC Peer Counselors here.
